Robust Ghostpipefish

Unlike Ornate Ghostpipefish, which is a visitor from the tropics, Robust Ghostpipefish are Sydney residents. They are incredibly difficult to spot as they look like broken pieces of weed.

What tends to give them away is the fact that these Ghostpipefish are almost always found in couples – a stunning female and her weedy little boyfriend.

It's clear underwater life, for male Robust Ghostpipefish, is pretty good, they just hang around Sydney with their attractive girlfriends with hardly a care in the world.  Robust Ghostpipefish are closely related to Seahorses, but unlike Seahorses, male Ghostpipefish do not have a pouch in which the young are reared. Instead the female ghostpipefish has the pouch and has to look after the eggs.
