Sea Urchin

It’s not surprising that sea urchins are covered in sharp spines, everyone wants to eat their gonads.

They’re served up in the finest restaurants around the globe. However, you’ll never see the words ‘urchin gonads’ on the menu. For some reason this dish didn’t sell. Instead they renamed it ‘urchin roe’ to make it seem like caviar and the gonad-eating public have been gorging themselves ever since.

Urchin gonads are just as popular underwater with everything from blue groupers to octopus tucking in. But are they really the world’s tastiest gonads? They must be, because when an urchin gets hungry, he’ll even eat his own.
